Attitude of Gratitude

Monday, just before Hurricane Sandy was about to make landfall in the Midatlantic states, I felt panicked and helpless knowing that many of my loved ones stood in its path. Once I knew everyone was safe, I felt overwhelmingly grateful. I felt thankful for my own safety, for technology that keeps us connected, for good samaritans, and generators. I felt thankful for hope, resilience, and for loving one another.

Understatement of the century: I have a lot to be thankful for.

In November 2011 I decided to give thanks each day by starting my own “Thirty Days of Thank You” project. Last year I mailed 30 thank you cards, one for each day of the month. My heart swelled with joy as I strolled down memory lane and thanked people who have impacted my life in profound ways.

This year, I will revisit the 30 Days of Thanks project with a different twist. Each day I will   express gratitude by 1) telling someone how awesome they are, 2) mailing a (non-wedding related) thank you note, 3) sending a gift, 0r 4) writing a blog post about something I’m thankful for.

For me, this process is about reflection and growth– I would love it if you tagged along with me. A few ways to contribute to the project:

  • Tweet your gratitude – #30daysofthanks
  • Send a good, ol’ fashioned thank you note
  • Tell someone you appreciate them
  • Perform a random act of kindness
  • Blog about something you’re grateful for
  • Volunteer
  • Pay it forward

Please leave a comment below if you will pledge to spend the next 30 days to giving thanks for many of the wonderful gifts we’ve been given. If you’re planning to blog or tweet your affirmations, please share your usernames and URLs so I can make a list!

Appreciate you reading, friends! Look forward to the next 30 days with you.
